Charting the Future

Our Charting the Future project aims to help members as they prepare for the future. Project completion will see the production of three new resources and a toolkit to replace existing CSP guidance on education, practice and conduct.

Background

This project began in 2008 with a period of discussion and member consultation about the future of physiotherapy. This led to publication of a booklet to reflect views and launch a programme of work aimed at helping you prepare for this future: download a copy of the booklet.

Ongoing discussion threads on iCSP show the future direction of physiotherapy is still inspiring lively debate. The profession faces many challenges as the UK health economy changes, but it also has many opportunities to develop and to demonstrate its strong contribution to the health and wellbeing of the UK population.

New resources

diagramWork has been underway since the project launch to develop resources and assistive tools to help the profession prepare for the future. The three inter-related strands to the project will each result in a corresponding new resource:

  1. Physiotherapy framework
  2. Physiotherapy learning and development principles
  3. Code of physiotherapy professionalism (working title)

Use the above links to find out more about each strand or download a copy of our project overview.

Timescales

Draft outputs from the first phases of work on the three strands are being considered by the project Steering Group in Jan 2010 and then by Council in March. These will focus primarily on entry level physiotherapists.

Following this, the outputs from the first phase will be finalised and disseminated. It is hoped this will be in June 2010. Work will then start on outstanding aspects of the project eg to address support workers and experienced/expert physiotherapists, and develop assistive tools.
