Supporting Knowledge in Physiotherapy Practice

SKIPP helps the profession develop and deliver evidence-based practice in response to current and future requirements: use this section of the site to find out more.

Talipes Evidence Note

The positional talipes management evidence note has now been published. See the publication record to download a copy of the PDF.
The CSP's Supporting Knowledge in Physiotherapy Practice (SKIPP) team has developed a process that aims to support members in:
  • sharing, developing and disseminating the clinical knowledge of the profession to support clinical practice and service organisation
  • better articulating how the profession contributes to a healthy society

The process will help the profession develop and deliver evidence-based practice in response to current and future requirements.

It also recognises that the information that makes up the knowledge of the profession comes from a wide range of sources, for example, clinical experience, wise judgement, patient / carer / family views, as well as information about the evidence of effectiveness of interventions.

The SKIPP process is the CSP's response to the recommendations from the Guideline Programme Review , conducted in 2006.

The SKIPP process will:
  • help CSP members to produce evidence-based products in a quality assured way
  • create a space to store these products for easy access

Development of products will be based on a clear, transparent process involving project planning, resource procurement, quality assurance, dissemination, implementation, review, and updating.

A range of products can be developed: see some examples in this section of the site. Completed tools and products are accessible via the online CSP library. This houses SKIPP endorsed products and other non-SKIPP endorsed work.

SKIPP projects in progress are indicated on this site. CSP recognises projects may already be underway outside of the SKIPP process and therefore members are invited to submit any evidence-based product development work that is underway or due to start on the Work in Progress pages by contacting the SKIPP team via email: skipp@csp.org.uk.

SKIPP products will be quality assured through an open process devised by members and administered through the CSP. The overarching philosophy for this will be that products are fit for their purpose.

During 2008 the CSP is piloting this new process with specific member groups and project teams and feedback and an evaluation of the pilot is being used to further develop and refine materials. The SKIPP pilot material is also available to any members to help with work underway e.g. those members already involved in developing their own evidence-based products.

See the SKIPP Product development page for further details on the SKIPP process for developing a product.
