Area of interest	The use of the horse as a therapeutic tool for people of any age or disability - the majority of which are neuromuscular disorders.

Who can join?	The following categories of membership are available: Full membership is open to all chartered Physiotherapists Departmental Associate membership, which is open to occupational therapists and members of other professional bodies involved with therapeutic riding Student membership which offers reduced rates Overseas membership for physiotherapists working in this field in other countries.
What is expected of members?	Members are expected to attend training days and workshops to keep informed of developments within the field of therapeutic riding and maintain standards of practice. They should also be prepared to serve as county or regional officers and committee members, if selected and take part in the work of the group.
How does the group support members' continuing professional development/lifelong learning?	Regional Network Most areas are represented by county or regional groups. Contact the honorary secretary for details. Peer support/mentorship County or regional officers will give support, or members can apply to the Executive Committee for help. Executive members can be contacted by phone or preferably by letter. Tutor support is available to those undertaking the therapeutic riding courses. Publications A newsletter is issued two to three times a year. New members receive a copy of the ACPTR (1999), Standards of Physiotherapy Practice in Therapeutic Riding, CSP. The honorary secretary holds a list of useful addresses and contact details. Suggested reading list A reading list is supplied to members attending courses and is included in the members' handbook. Conferences and study days The group holds a biannual conference and AGM and a national study day is held in the year between conferences. A number of additional study days and practical workshops are also run. Formal courses offered/recommended A formal, accredited course,'The Horse in Rehabilitation' (a course accredited by the University of Greenwich), is undertaken in three parts. Links with other groups/organisations Informal contact is maintained with groups including Riding for the Disabled and the para Olympic team.
How does the group promote research and evaluation?	Promoting research awareness Those doing parts two and three of the 'Horse in Rehabilitation' course have to produce case studies which show evidence of in-depth studies. The group is looking at collating this work for publication. A number of members are also involved in larger scale research projects. Research/education awards Limited funding is available to assist lecturers who are invited to speak overseas.
Outcome measures	The group recommends its members use the CSP outcome measures database available on this website.
