Group benefits

Each of the groups has developed a set of objectives that outline their key priorities, and are based on the following model:

  • To provide a forum to promote the exchange of ideas between those interested in a particular field of physiotherapy practice
  • To develop clinical guidelines and standards of practice for those working in a particular field of physiotherapy practice
  • To promote and facilitate post graduate education in a particular field of physiotherapy practice
  • To encourage research and development to enhance the research base of physiotherapy
  • To develop and maintain links with the other relevant organisations in the UK and overseas
  • To represent their field of physiotherapy practice on behalf of the CSP
  • To promote the benefits of their field of physiotherapy practice

Each group will achieve these objectives according to its resources, its size and geographical spread for example. All groups offer a peer support, a regular journal/newsletter and provide and organise courses specific to members' interests.

Membership of a clinical interest or occupational group will offer a range of benefits including:

  • access to CPD opportunities eg conferences, study days or workshops
  • access to a clinical network eg for peer support, information on a specific clinical issue, research information and support
  • access to group's publications eg journal, newsletter, clinical effectiveness information, promotional leaflets
  • opportunities to influence the CSP's activity around a clinical issue via the formal links between the recognised CI/OGs and the Society (eg representation at Annual Representatives Conference and the quarterly Clinical Interest Group Liaison Committee)
  • Opportunities to influence the wider agenda, eg some groups have established links with patient organisations
