Current membership profile
At least 12 percent of the CSP's membership have, as part of their job, a managerial remit. 3000 of these members from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England are registered on the CSP's managers database.
Within the group there is an enormous amount of role diversity as some managers head large physiotherapy departments based in the acute sector, others lead smaller teams in the independent sector or multidisciplinary teams spanning both acute and community. More managers than ever before manage a range of staff groups, mainly therapists from the Allied Health Professions, and some mangers act as professional consultants or advisers across a group of Primary Care Trusts.
Managers are pivotal in securing a future place for the profession in a currently changing health and social care sector. As physiotherapy services are being configured in new ways and commissioning processes are rapidly and diversely developing across the four UK countries, managers are facing challenges as never before.
