BACPIM
The British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Manipulation (BACPIM) is an umbrella group representing the main interest groups in neuromusculo-skeletal physiotherapy accessible to Chartered Physiotherapists.
BACPIM has been actively involved in promoting the physiotherapy profession within the field of manual therapy since its formation in 1992. In particular it has:- developed an integrated course on the management of low back pain for physiotherapists
- represented physiotherapy in the Clinical Standards Advisory Group (CSAG) report (1994) on back pain
- represented physiotherapy in the development of the RCGP Guidelines (1996 - revised 1999)
- enabled the production of an information pack aimed at promoting physiotherapy in the management of low back pain
- held a consensus conference on teaching manipulation to undergraduates which resulted in the publication of information paper PA40: guidance for the safe teaching of manipulation to undergraduates
- represented physiotherapy on the development and advisory groups of the National Sentinel Audit of the RCGP Guidelines for the management of acute low back pain
