Members Benevolent Fund
Our benevolent fund offers help to members, past and present, experiencing financial difficulties through no fault of their own.
Do you need some extra help at the moment?
You may currently have a serious illness or perhaps you've just had a serious accident or relationship break-up. So how about trying the MBF?
Financial assistance
Over the years MBF has helped many members with either a single grant or with regular monthly financial assistance to meet ongoing living costs such as equipment, heating provision or transport. Some of our awards are one-off payments to contribute towards special equipment to aid independent living, household repairs, or to assist with an unexpected cost from some trauma - flood or car accident for example. If money is tight anyway, those unexpected occurrences can just be too much to cope with.
Most of our beneficiaries are in their 30s and 40s, and they apply for many different reasons. Monthly assistance may continue long term if necessary or for just a few months to help someone get back on their feet again.
Apply for funds
The Fund's monies are available to help anyone who is or has been a member of the Society (whether in the UK or overseas), an associate or student member provided that their capital does not exceed the maximum figure used by the Department of Work and Pensions to decide on eligibility. The criteria that we use for assessing need are in line with UK Charity Law and we are unable to repay debt.If you need help or know someone who needs help, do not hesitate to contact the Society for an application form. All applications are dealt with in complete confidence and details given are not revealed outside the membership of the MBF committee. Only committee members are involved in making decisions about the amount of support to be given to an applicant.
How to donate
The MBF is reliant on donations from CSP members to maintain the service currently offered, and those donations enable us to give those little extras like a gift at Christmas.- You can make a single donation or a regular contribution, and by using Gift Aid we can claim an extra 28p in the pound from the taxman on your donation.*
- You could hold a coffee morning or other event to assist the MBF or be sponsored in a marathon for example, or you may choose to leave a legacy to the MBF in your Will.

Queries
For MBF queries, application forms or more information about donations, please contact the Enquiry Handling Unit on 020 7306 6666.
* A Gift Aid donation means the MBF gets an additional 28p for every pound you give: the CSP claims tax relief of 25p on every pound which is then boosted by a 3p goverment supplement. (HMRC's operating transitional provisions for Gift Aid donations is valid until 5 April 2011.)
